Spider-Man coming to Playstation

Marvel Studios has officially become the biggest name in Hollywood. With more franchises spawned in the last 10 years then any other movie studio out there, Marvel is sinking its teeth into other mediums of entertainment. Now this would not be the first time Marvel has given a Game Developer the green light to use one of its IPs in a video game. Let’s not forget the beautifully cell-shaded Ultimate Spider-Man from the PlayStation 2 days or the game based on Spider-Man 2 the movie that blew everyone’s expectations out of the water. The creative team at Marvel has brought good old Spidey back for a next generation web slinging adventure to outshine all the rest. Here is why you should be excited for Spider-Man.

Talented Production

Insomniac Games, creators of the fan favorite Ratchet & Clank are at the helm of this project. Some of you may remember their cult hits like the Resistance Fall of Man Trilogy. Shooting through walls anyone? Insomniac has made some of the most creative weapons in gaming. Anyone remember Ratchets Disco Gun? Who wouldn’t want to see their enemies dance to funky music? More importantly, Insomniac Games developed Sunset Overdrive. The Xbox One exclusive where you play as a teenager who slides along grind rails and jumps across buildings throughout Sunset City. Just the type of fluid and responsive gameplay needed to traverse an open world in a…. Spider-Man game?

Brand New Story

The team at Marvel gave Insomniac Games their blessing to create a brand new story from scratch for your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. This opens up huge doors of opportunity. Imagine not knowing what to expect? That no matter how many Spider-Man comic books you may have read over the years you will still get the sense of awe and novelty when you play this game. But at the same time, because you’re an expert you can confidently breakdown all Easter eggs to your lesser enlightened friends. Spider-Man even has a brand new suit in this game!

Gameplay

From what we’ve seen at the E3 2017 trailer, Spider-Man is going to be a hell of a ride. You see Spidey swinging effortlessly through the city between buildings and even racing to stop a helicopter. Spidey can also can interact with his environment giving you a multitude of ways to take out the bad guys. Everything from swinging one masked robber into his partner like a club to using your web shooters to swing a wrecking ball right into an assailant’s face. This is the type interactivity that was not possible on previous generations of consoles. Did we mention the game looks amazing?

When to expect

Spider-Man will release on September 7th, 2018. And if you don’t have a PlayStation 4 already now would be the time to buy one. Sorry Xbox and Nintendo but Spider-Man is currently a PlayStation exclusive. If you can’t get enough Marvel from this year’s Black Panther and Avenger’s 4 theatrical releases, you can look forward to taking a piece of the Marvel Universe home with you when Spider-Man hits store shelves everywhere.
